Detransition in Ireland

Detransition is not a single clinical outcome. It can mean stopping puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones, reversing a social transition, seeking treatment for unwanted effects, changing one’s legal documents, or coming to identify again with one’s sex. It may be temporary or permanent, voluntary or shaped by external pressure. Crucially, detransition is not synonymous with regret; equally, regret cannot be assumed absent merely because a patient remains in a transition pathway.
